This is my 100th Tumblr post. And being that it’s New Year’s Eve, I thought I’d put together a Flickr set of my favorite photographs taken over the past year. I’d love to have you check it out!
This was the first year I really poured my creative energy into photography. After playing around a bit with vintage cameras last fall, I was determined to make the most of the Minnesota summer and take as many photos as possible. I used a mix of cameras and techniques, but I tend to favor my trusty Holga camera loaded with Kodak 120 film. I think my work is getting better, though I think my photostream definitely shows the marks of someone who is experimenting like crazy. But that’s where I’m at.
I’d like to say thank you to all my friends who follow me on Twitter and Tumblr. When I started the blog earlier this year, I thought it would be hard to make my voice heard amongst all the folks with thousands of followers. But since then my followers have slowly grown. These days, when I post something new, my fellow bloggers check it out and often comment back to me. I love that, and its the constant dialogue and discussion that keeps me posting.
So that’s me in 2010. Here’s my bullet list of goals for 2011:
- Use new tools. I have a brand new DSLR, which leaves me very conflicted. I want to learn to use it in a way that will make these new images co-exist with my film work. In addition, I have a treasure trove of strange cameras that I’d like to explore beyond a test roll: a BHF with an inverted lens, a Sabre 620, the Diana clone.
- Get published in a photography magazine or get accepted into a photography show. This is something I’ve just started to pursue seriously, but I’m determined to break the ice and get my photos out there in the world!
- Start an Etsy shop where I sell prints, postcards, etc. I think it would be a neat experience to see how photo buyers respond to my work. And making a few dollars from print sales wouldn’t hurt either!
- Keep connecting with people. Like I say, my follower count has been rising, but its still quite modest. I’d like to hit 500 Twitter followers and 500 Tumblr followers by the end of 2011. That’s a big jump, but I think it would be great to reach that many people each time I publish a photo! And for those that already follow me, I’d love to meet some of you in real life!
So thanks for reading, thanks for following, and here’s to pushing ourselves creatively in 2011!
